American Support For Age Caps In Congress

In May's poll by NPR/NBC/Marist, nearly 8 in ten Americans support age caps in congress.
"The poll found that 78% of Democrats support both age caps and term limits. Eighty-three percent of Republicans backed maximum age limits, and nearly 9 in 10 supported term limits." (Npr). Age limits in congress have become something that has been talked about for years, but has been ignored by those in power. This new law is ignored because the people in power are in their late 70's, 80's or 90's and still running the show.
"The median age of a worker in the U.S. is 42 years old. However, on Capitol Hill, that jumps to 58 for members of the House and 65 in the Senate... When comparing the age breakdown of Congress to the rest of the American workforce, there's a sizable gap. The median age of a worker in the U.S. is 42 years old. However, on Capitol Hill, that jumps to 58 for members of the House and 65 in the Senate. The current Congress is now the third oldest in U.S. history, and has seen five members die since last March. Each was 65 or older." (NPR).
Are politicians making conscious choices? Are they serving the interests of outdated beliefs? Are they mentally fit enough to make decisions for millions of Americans? These are the questions Americans want to know.
May Day 2026
On May 1st there was a worldwide protest for workers facing higher prices and staffing shortages from the war. May 1st is also international worker day.
Workers in the U.S are also calling for making May Day a national holiday. They are advocating against billionaires and are demanding far wages for workers in the U.S
"Working people refuse to pay the price for Donald Trump's war in the Middle East," the European Trade Union Confederation, which represents 93 trade union organizations in 41 European countries, said. "Today's rallies show working people will not stand by and see their jobs and living standards destroyed."

Ebola Outbreak
On May 17th the World Health Organization declared an Ebola outbreak in the Republic of Congo, in coordinance with this, the United States has been blocking American citizens in the DRC from returning to the U.S on flights and placing them on a “do-not-board” list until they have spent at least 21 days in a third country.(CP24)
Workers at Ebola treatment centers are beginning to strike over unfair salaries which is excasterbating the outbreak as well. The outbreak, which has infected almost 2,000 people and killed over 700, could be at least two to four times larger than official figures, the UN health agency warned. The current outbreak is in the DRC and Uganda. (dw.com)

Supreme Court of Virginia Blocks Redistricting Vote
Shortly after Virginia voters passed a Democratic referendum for allowing the redistricting of several Virginia Districts, the slightly Republican Supreme Court struck down the referendum, and refused to implement the new maps. The new maps proposed by Virginia Democratic legislators were a rebuttal to Texas redistricting made by Republicans and their efforts to boost up their congressional backing in red districts and states before the midterms.
"The Virginia vote is the latest development in an ongoing redistricting battle set off by Trump last year. Trump asked lawmakers in Texas to create five more seats that favor Republicans in the state. Shortly after, California voters backed a plan to create five seats that favor Democrats. This essentially offset any gains Republicans were hoping to get out of Texas. However, because Missouri and North Carolina Republicans created a few more GOP-leaning seats in their states, Republicans had a bit of an edge heading into the midterms." (NPR- https://www.npr.org/2026/04/21/nx-s1-5793878/virginia-redistricting-results-trump)
Virginia Democrat Attorney General Jay Jones asked the Virginia Supreme Court to stay the motion, then filed an emergency motion to the Supreme Court with Justice John Roberts and bench denying to interfere in the stop. "In a statement, Jones called the decision “another profoundly troubling example of the continued national attack on voting rights and the rule of law by Donald Trump, Republican state legislatures, and conservative courts." (Politico.com). With this result, the next election will have 6 Democratic districts, and 5 Republican districts, deeply deterring Democrats goals in the redistricting battle.
